SPOON THEORY &
OUR STORY

Spoonies - this is for You

Spoonie Day centers around the “Spoon Theory” - an elegant way of describing what it’s like to live with a chronic illness. This community now often calls themselves "Spoonies" and identify their energy consumption in relation to spoons.

The Spoon Theory was coined by Christine Miserandino, writer, blogger and patient advocate, the theory was fashioned over lunch as she explained to her friend what it was like to live with lupus. The story is told on her site and certainly worth a read if you are not already familiar with it.

As for me...it felt like someone had crept into my home - and locked all the doors. I was diagnosed with Primary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis (PPMS) after I had just given birth to my 2nd son less than 3 months prior. The word “incurable” made me feel helpless - I had to take control, somehow.

In my quest for applications to help me get through my days and new life, I was surprised to find there wasn’t a Spoon tracking app; so I decided to build it myself. I can't make my disease go away; but I can help our community have some hope in at least planning their activities to make life seem more manageable.
